The wire. Front page analysis

Image
The wire. Front page (specialist music mag) This front page is much simpler than that of the KERRANG!  The simplistic approach to this front page puts all the audience's attention on the artist, Fennesz. The use of lighting gives a mysterious air to the artist as his facial features are shadowed and the mono-colour background puts the artist in the totally in the foreground. The choice of the writing in stark white against the pink creates a clear message, the writing is important but not more important than the artist.

KERRANGE! Article analysis

KERRANGE! Article (specialist music mag) In this double page spread featuring H.I.M we see the clever choice of colour to attract an audience. The bright font colour puts focus on the artist's name and the white contrasted onto the dark black causes the text stand out. The use of the quotation makes us feel relate to the artist as we get a glimpse into their opinions and feelings. In this instance, the quotation "we felt like we didn't have a home" helps us to develop an emotive relationship with the artist as he is exposing a vulnerable side to himself. The design and layout choice of the second page featuring almost entirely an image of the artist is clever done as it means we do not disassociate the words with his identity. The use of the lexis "Remember me?" leads to the assumption that we are already familiar with H.I.M and they are making a comeback to the the music scene. Suggesting that the readers are already fans of their work an...

KERRANG! Front Page analysis

KERRANG! Front Page  (specialised music mag) On this front page, there is an identity created for the band BRING ME THE HORIZON. The main singer is clearly in the foreground with the rest of the band members behind him. This positioning highlights that he is the main voice and face of the band. The head of the main singer covers the KERRANG! masthead which re-enforces his importance.  There is a colour scheme which brings the whole front page together and ties in other elements of the paper not associated with the band such as the other features placed on top of the masthead. The use of colour is appealing to the audience as it is bright and relates to the rock identity of the magazine. This particular KERRANG! front page can be seen as somewhat unconventional compared to their usual front page style. This can be seen by comparing it it to others where the artists have a more hardcore rock identity and often use aggressive hand gestures or controversial poses in ...

070 Shake "Guilty Conscience" (Def Jam) The video opens with a message from Dani Moon :  Although I'm not a boy, I wanted to display a boy  Being broken How he manages his sadness When he is not allowed to cry From young A boy must create a shell  That protects him from His own emotions But when that shell cracks It creates an intense amount of vulnerability Where the boy must replace the shell with actions That make him seem as if the shell never broke He replaces this shell with Ego, Desire and Pride. The first scene shows an upper body shot of a young man, breaking down in tears and wiping his face while the song tittle appears in the middle of the screen. The singer then appears upside down hanging from a pole while singing about voices in her head not letting her rest, the imagery with the lyrics creates a sense of confusion and like the world she knows has been turned upside down. The shot of 070 Shake in the foregroun...

Kanye West "Closed On Sunday" (Def Jam) Opening scene looks self filmed, from the back of a truck, giving a homemade, authentic feel. Bizarre vans looks futuristic therefore making the video intriguing. The full body shot of Kim and Kanye and their children establishes their identity as a family. The shot of all the family and the choir in the background paired with all the trucks moving together creates a sense of togetherness and community within the video. The powerful shot from a distance of a man on the edge of a cliff creates an emotive feeling within the audience as when the camera starts to zoom in, the man gets on his knees and raises his hands as if praying to God, makes religion one of the focal points of the music video. The zooming out shot of Kanye in the centre, surrounded by the members of his choir creates a focus on Kanye and establishes him as the leader of this movement.

Golden Silvers "Arrows of Eros" ( XL . Rec) The mise-en-scene in the opening shot is of all three of the band members slowly turning to face the camera, within individual purple boxes. The use of the separate boxes shows that each band member should be regarded as an individual while the use of the universal colour of these boxes shows that they are part of a collective therefor showing some of their band identity. The next three shots are close up shots of instruments being played, with only the hands of the artists visible. This indicates that the band pride themselves off the ability to play the drums, guitar and keyboard and makes it a key part of the music video. The screen is then divided into 3 sections, with the lead singer in the central part of the screen. This creates a focal point on him and shows that he is the main voice and face of the bands identity. There are a range of shots included within the video. The main one used is the head to shou...

Jack Penate 'Pull My Heart Away" (XL. Rec) The opening shot is a scenic shot of a desert like environment with mountains and the moon against a blue sky. The camera then zooms into the moon and the camera handling is shaky and it could be assumed that the artist is holding the camera, making it seem candid. From the use of the moon and scenery we can get the identity that the artist is quite into the elements and nature. The shot of the moon then fades out into a glass ball, giving a sense of enigma and mystery to the video. There are a range of shots used. from extreme close ups of the artist's eye to full body pan shots of the artist travelling through the desert scenery. The main use of shot is the full body scenic shot where the artist is quite far away from the camera and interfering with different elements of nature such as a donkey or balancing on rocks etc. In terms of camera movements, there is use of tilting where the camera is moved vertically showing ...
