KERRANG! Front Page (specialised music mag)



  • On this front page, there is an identity created for the band BRING ME THE HORIZON. The main singer is clearly in the foreground with the rest of the band members behind him. This positioning highlights that he is the main voice and face of the band. The head of the main singer covers the KERRANG! masthead which re-enforces his importance. 
  • There is a colour scheme which brings the whole front page together and ties in other elements of the paper not associated with the band such as the other features placed on top of the masthead. The use of colour is appealing to the audience as it is bright and relates to the rock identity of the magazine.
  • This particular KERRANG! front page can be seen as somewhat unconventional compared to their usual front page style. This can be seen by comparing it it to others where the artists have a more hardcore rock identity and often use aggressive hand gestures or controversial poses in front of the camera. IN contrast the front page for BRING ME THE HORIZON has a more chilled out and relaxed look.

    Extend use of media terms , and use print toolkit. Treat this as though you're analysing an unseen product as you have practised for Comp 1.

KERRANGE! Article (specialist music mag) In this double page spread featuring H.I.M we see the clever choice of colour to attract an audience. The bright font colour puts focus on the artist's name and the white contrasted onto the dark black causes the text stand out. The use of the quotation makes us feel relate to the artist as we get a glimpse into their opinions and feelings. In this instance, the quotation "we felt like we didn't have a home" helps us to develop an emotive relationship with the artist as he is exposing a vulnerable side to himself. The design and layout choice of the second page featuring almost entirely an image of the artist is clever done as it means we do not disassociate the words with his identity.
